Gary Fredson, ESE Group’s Chief Executive Officer drove to Ben Nevis to support Speedo Mick in his effort to walk from John o’ Grouts to Land’s End.

Speedo Mick, aka Mick Cullen, is attempting to walk 1000 miles in aid of his charity “leave the light on”, a group set up to provide help and support to anyone, young or old, who feels isolated and is suffering. The journey will take him at least 7 weeks and most of the time he will be wearing nothing but a pair of Speedos!

Speedo Mick and Gary Fredson

Walking from  he has already raised over £20k. He has had tremendous support from local communities on the way with people offering him a warm bed for the night and a hot meal.

Friday morning (20.12.19) he was greeted by Gary Fredson, CEO, and Rob Molloy, Chief Operating Officer, of the well established Liverpool renewable energy company, ESE Group.

Gary and Rob made the 350 mile journey from Liverpool Thursday night after work to meet Speedo Mick at Glencoe.

A long way from the board room and in the comfort of one of their ESE company vans they phoned Mick to ask him if he needed them to bring anything. In true Speedo Mick style all he asked for was an Everton flag!

But ESE were able to go one better than that by handing Mick a huge cheque for £3000 and a mince pie!

Gary said “ESE is a Liverpool born and bread company and it’s fantastic to be able to support a fellow scouser and fanatic Evertonian as he puts himself through this gruelling challenge for a charity he feels so passionately about”

Speedo Mick is a huge fundraising figure at Everton’s home ground where he has selflessly been raising money since 2014. Gary and Rob are both season ticket holders and Rob recalls seeing Mick on the terraces of Goodison Park on many occasions in his Speedo’s shaking a collection bucket.

Mick is hoping to raise £50k for the charity he set up earlier this year and ESEs generous donation will go a long way to achieving his target.

Gary and Rob refused to strip down to their briefs for this picture ESE tweeted earlier today, preferring to leave braving the cold to the expert!

Born in North West England, Jack kicked off his career in the insurance arena, dealing with claims for three years. Always up for a challenge, Jack leapt out of his comfort zone and embarked upon 5 years of excitement with the military.

Working for the Ministry of Defence, Jack specialised in counter-terrorism which took him to places such as Dubai, Oman, Iraq, Norway and Bahrain. During this period he worked with various Governments implementing strategic operations to prevent terrorism.

After travelling around various countries Jack increasingly came across various forms of solar from large solar farms to domestic solar panels. From here Jack took a keen interest in all things solar and started reading about the technological capabilities with a view to entering the industry after his career in the Ministry of Defence.

Once home after 5 fruitful years, Jack had 3 months leave in which he immersed himself in a solar crash course and got applying for jobs within the solar sector. He came across ESE Group, a long-established forward-thinking company whose head office was only a stone’s throw away from him. He picked up the phone to see if there were any vacancies and within a week had a successful interview and obtained a full-time job, starting in the technical team.

Within the first few months, Jack onboarded in various online courses during work and social hours to speed up his knowledge of all things solar. Due to his strong work ethic and thirst for knowledge Jack was promoted to Head of Technical at ESE Group. He currently leads the team and oversees the product development of new technologies within the company alongside assisting where necessary on their maintenance department.
